Miranda’s Rescue got a surprise delivery last month. On April 14, a miniature horse colt was born, catching everyone but his mama off guard. Mother and son are currently residing in the agility field at the Rescue and getting lots of attention. Shannon hasn’t decided yet if he’s going to permanently name the colt Surprise or not. For now, we’ll just call him adorable.
Most dogs adopted from Miranda’s Rescue stay in the area. Some move out of the county or even the state, but this is the first time we’ve heard of one moving out of the hemisphere.
When Kelly and Alan adopted Joey from Miranda’s Rescue last year, he immediately became an important part of the family. So, when they made plans to emigrate to New Zealand this July, there was no question that he would be going along. Joey, now renamed Aussie Digger Dog, has a full schedule in the next few months. Not only does he need to get a thorough health check-up and up-to-date on his vaccines, but he will have to spend a month in quarantine once he arrives in NZ. Once he’s through with that, though, he will emerge a full-fledged Kiwi, just in time for springtime down under.

Miranda’s Rescue would like to thank Par Infinity Disc Golf of Arcata for choosing us as one of the beneficiaries of their second annual Ice Bowl Benefit Tournament. The competition was held in January and raised nearly $1000 and more than 200 pounds of dog and cat food for the shelter.
