The lifeblood of any non-profit organization is its volunteers, and Miranda’s Rescue is no exception. Without the time and energy donated by many wonderful people, it would be impossible to care for the many animals who pass through the shelter.
Many people who think about volunteering, and even some of those who make it out to the shelter to give it a try, are intimidated by the amount of work required to keep everything going, and by the dedication required to come out to feed and clean on cold and wet winter days. What these would-be volunteers don’t realize is that an organization like Miranda’s Rescue can use helpers of all kinds and levels of involvement. You don’t need to set aside a lot of time or work all that hard to make a contribution. An investment of only a couple of hours a week can make a difference in the lives of our animals. That’s because happy dogs and cats are healthier and more adoptable than unhappy ones, and nothing makes an animal happier than quality time spent with a loving person.
While we always need volunteers who are willing to do the dirty work, we would also like to welcome those who are willing to come down and learn to do the fun work. A little time spent learning how to properly socialize the animals—encouraging their positive behavior and discouraging the negative—and you can make a meaningful contribution by walking a dog or playing fetch. And with the summer months approaching, this is the perfect time to get into the habit of volunteering. Spending time with the animals is a great way to spend time with friends (and make new ones), to get out in the sun and get some exercise, and to feel good while doing good. So don’t be intimidated. We would love to see you here.
